New Barn and Discovery Center Strengthen Community Connections, Expand Opportunities for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and Enhance Year‑Round Guest Experiences
Green Oaks, IL — Lambs Farm will host a private dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting on Thursday, July 30, celebrating the completion of the first phase of the Farmyard renovation — a transformational project that strengthens Lambs Farm’s role as a beloved community destination and expands meaningful opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Several elected officials, community leaders, and longtime supporters will join Lambs Farm participants and staff to mark this milestone. The event will highlight the broad community collaboration that helped bring this project to life and the important role the Farmyard plays in Lambs Farm’s mission and identity.
For decades, the Farmyard has been one of Lambs Farm’s most cherished spaces — a place where families gather, children learn, and visitors of all ages connect with animals and with one another. The newly completed first phase includes a modern barn designed for improved animal comfort, a Discovery Center that enhances educational programming, and a refreshed train that has delighted generations of guests. These updates strengthen the Farmyard’s ability to serve the community year‑round, offering new experiences in every season.
The renovation also expands opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With the new facilities, Lambs Farm will be able to create additional vocational roles, skill‑building activities, and guest‑service positions for participants — reinforcing the organization’s mission of providing meaningful work, personal growth, and community inclusion.
“The completion of the first phase of the Farmyard renovation is a meaningful moment not just for Lambs Farm, but for the entire community,” said Kathy Buresch, President and CEO of Lambs Farm. “This project enhances a space that has brought joy to families for generations, while also expanding opportunities for the remarkable people we serve. We are deeply grateful to the donors, partners, and elected officials whose support made this possible.”
The Farmyard will open to the public soon, offering expanded programming, improved accessibility, and new ways for visitors to engage with Lambs Farm’s mission. For updates on the opening, visit www.lambsfarm.org or follow Lambs Farm on Facebook and Instagram.
